About Easington Colliery PDF Print E-mail

Local people are working hard to tackle pockets of poor housing in what was until recently a mining community.

Easington Colliery is now maximising its assets, with a stunning stretch of Heritage Coast on its doorstep and rural setting to attract new housing and investment into this close knit community.

Easington Social Welfare Centre boasts one of the largest sprung floor dance halls in the North East and is adjacent to Easington Colliery’s well maintained Welfare Park.

Autumn 2007 will see County Durham PCT open Health Works, a £750,000 healthy living resource centre.

The National Trust own’s the coastal strip (a special site of scientific interest) and visitor centre, Beacon Hill barn.  Beacon Hill is the highest coastal point between the rivers Tyne and Tees.

Easington Colliery is close to the A19 and the increasingly popular visitor destination of Seaham in the north and Hartlepool in the south.

Made famous in 2000 as the setting for the hit film Billy Elliott, this is a community which has a proud heritage to remember and positive future to look forward to.
